Blog Journal #3

    Copyright is a way to protect one's own original work. When a copyright is in place owners have exclusive rights to their intellectual property. They also get to decide how their work is used and distributed. Those that use a copyrighted work must give credit to the owner and possibly pay for it. Fair use is a set of rules that were created as a part of the Copyright Act of 1976. These rules allow users to copy works for nonprofit educational purposes, but only within reason. As a teacher I would deal with these concepts when developing my own instructional materials by being careful not to use copyrighted works. I would also be sure to use proper citations when necessary. When instructing students on how to create their own works, I would make sure that they are careful to go over copyright laws and that they are aware of how to properly cite their sources. 

    Some technology implementation issues that occur include risks to student privacy and cyberbullying. In order to combat any potential risks to student privacy, they should be encouraged not to share personal information online. Things such as personal email addresses and phone numbers are among some of the things that should be kept private. Students should also be encouraged not to follow or engage with anyone online that they do not know. Cyberbullying is any kind of bullying that occurs online. Students should be encouraged to alert adults about any instances of cyberbullying. Remaining kind to others online should also be emphasized.

    The skills that I gained from working on the newsletter assignment include using columns on Microsoft Word, creating text boxes, and how to make a permission slip. For future newsletters I could improve them by adding more color as well as using more interesting graphics. I can use the skills I gained in completing this assignment in my future career because I know am more proficient in using Microsoft Word. Previously I have created a newsletter using Canva, however Microsoft Word works a bit differently.

I have enjoyed my time in EME2040. I have found the coursework to be entertaining and useful. I am in an asynchronous section. I have enjoyed being able to complete assignments throughout the week at my own pace. The only thing I dislike is that I miss the in-person environment, however, I do not think it is necessary for this course. Blog Journal #4

       The standard that I chose from the ELA standards was the first one for second grade. This standard essentially means to use knowledge from images and text in a physical or online format of text to show understanding of the text's characters, setting, and plot. I feel prepared to implement this standard based on my current skill set. I have relatively good reading comprehension skills. I am also quite good at analyzing and interpreting images and illustrations because I have taken art classes all my life. I have also taken two different courses during my time at FSU that have challenged me to interpret various works of art such as films, books, and paintings.     I selected the second grade Art section of the CPALMS Educator Toolkit. Blog Journal #6

      My initial experiences using Diigo have been positive. It is a helpful tool in regards to sharing articles and resources. I have found it is helpful for myself, because I have a place to store bookmarks that are specific to this course. I also think it is very helpful to be able to see the resources that my classmates are using for this course.      My experiences with blogging have been that it is very helpful for explaining my thoughts. It is a nice way to just write down my thoughts and share them. I like that blogging does not have to fit a certain format and you can write about whatever you would like to. In regards to this course, I have enjoyed getting to read my classmates' blogs each week.
